e-Shram Registrations: 16 crore unorganized workers join eshram.gov.in; Modi government provides these facilities
Labour Shramik Card Registration news: The Government of India last year rolled out a national database for unorganised workers for the overall welfare of crores of unorganised workers of the country. The Modi government has developed an e-SHRAM portal, which will be seeded with their Aadhaar cards.
More than 16 crore unorganised workers (UW) in the country have already registered under the portal. The registration under the e-SHRAM portal is totally free and workers do not have to pay anything for his or her registration at Common Service Centres (CSCs), or Regional Offices of State Government. They can also directly register through the e-SHRAM portal eshram.gov.in

The e-SHRAM card will be acceptable across the country. After registering, the worker is entitled to get an accidental insurance cover and permanent disability of 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh for partial disability under PMSBY. In future, all the social security benefits of unorganised workers will be delivered through this portal.

It will also be helpful for State & Central Governments to provide assistance to eligible UWs in case of any pandemic/ calamities. The registration has already started on 26th August.
Construction workers, migrant workers, street vendors, domestic workers, milkmen, truck drivers, fishermen, agriculture workers and similar other workers to be covered in e-Shram portal.
This system is being made to register 38 crore unorganised workers. "It will not only register them but would also be helpful in delivering of various social security schemes being implemented by the Central and State Governments,” said the labour minister said.
